At the launch of Indian Academy Awards 2016, King Khan was present and raised several crucial issues. He spoke at length, on his own experiences in a very candid way.
Well, all of us know about SRK’s exceptional performances in the films like Swades and Chak De! India, but hadn’t received a National Award for the same. When asked about it, he said,
“I come from a place where audience and jury and filmmakers are kind. For me, if I say I want an award for that film it’s not good on them. If I haven’t got an award, I don’t deserve it.”
However, Khan felt nostalgic for not getting the awards he had desired. He further said,
“Somewhere down the line any award that I have received I have always thought of it as collective applause for the work I have done in a year or for a specific film. So yes, I do keep tabs on awards and I want to keep winning them and I try very hard to get them and when I don’t them I get extremely sad.”
About the relevance of Oscar Awards as a benchmark of a career, he spoke,

“Oscars are going on for years. It’s inspirational. Also, Golden Globe and BAFTA. They have created an Academy. But, I think there is a system there which can be inspirational in trying to take a cue from a good thing that already exists. So, I am not saying it’s a benchmark that we are trying to create. We are also not trying to create a clone or a mini Oscars. But, somewhere down the line if there is a good thing, where we can create a property which is about Indian films married with the Hollywood and South Indian films and Inshallah all the films in India (in different languages), but don’t consider it (Oscars) as a benchmark – create your own benchmark!”
51-year-old actor also spoke about effect of television on the credibility of awards. He said,

“Television has destroyed the credibility of awards functions to an extent. Honestly, what happens now is an award function is made more television friendly. It is really sad according to me. The organizers initially start with a lot of earnestness and ethic…. but somewhere we get entangled in the loop. I won’t take away the fact that everyone tries to be credible, everyone tries to make the best step possible but I think that reasons of commerce and economics sometimes don’t let it go to the extent.”
