After many denying, it has been confirmed that Shahrukh Khan will play the role of Rakesh Sharma, the first Indian astronaut in the movie titled Salute. Amir Khan was approached first to play the lead role but he backed out and suggested Shahrukh Khan for the role.
SRK is currently working on Zero and will start Salute after the wrap up of the current move. Katerina Kaif and Anushka Sharma co-star Khan in the movie where he will be seen as a dwarf for the first time. The movie is directed by Tanu Weds Manu fame director Anand L Rai.
“Zero is a film which will require a lot of VFX. Shah Rukh will wrap up Zero by April. He will perhaps begin the shoot of Salute by September and will shoot for close to two to three months and wrap its first schedule. The next schedule of Salute will begin from Jan 2019“, a source close to Shahrukh reported to media.
Right now, SRK is interested in donning the variety of characters other than the romantic hero. It will be surely interesting to see how the actor will experiment with the role of the celebrated first Indian who entered the space. Earlier Shahrukh played the role of a Project Manager on Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) program at NASA.
The movie was earlier named as ‘Sare Jahan Se Accha’ but changed to Salute few time back. The movie will be directed by Mahesh Mathai. After Amir Khan opted out from the project, Ronnie Screwvala and Siddharth Roy Kapur kept approaching Shahrukh Khan who finally agreed to do the movie this month.
Priyanka Chopra was a former choice for the role of the Rakesh Sharma’s wife. But she is no more part of the project as soon as Amir was out of this project. As per the report, she had to leave the movie as these two stars will no longer work together in a movie. Till now, the female lead has not confirmed yet.
