Leena Yadav’s critically acclaimed film Parched featuring Radhika Apte recount the journey of four spirited women in rural Rajasthan battling patriarchal society.
The Centeral Board of Film Certification has praised the film for its “bold” content, but also shown incredible broad-mindedness by leaving the film UNTOUCHED.
The producer of the film Aseem Bajaj says,
The board has passed the film for ‘Adults Only’ with just a few cuts. We are very grateful to CBFC. They’ve shown immense empathy, sensitivity and generosity towards Parched.
Apparently, the two women members in the jury of the Censor Board moved by the film’s content, says Aseem,
They were reluctant to cut anything except a shot of a bare breast. They said it (a breast) does not jell with the Indian audiences’ sensibility. We were okay with that. They gave us the option of removing or blurring the breast. We chose the latter option.
The Censor Board has also objected to some abusive language. Adds Aseem.
There were scenes showing little boys using abusive language. The board members felt it was not needed. We agreed to remove the abuses and the breast shot as they in no way affected our storytelling.”
Aseem feels the Censor Board has criticised a lot and says,
In my experience they are fair and just and doing their jobs to the best of their abilities.
“Parched” is a drama written and directed by Leena Yadav and produced by Ajay Devgn under his banner Ajay Devgn FFilms. Radhika revealed she plays an uneducated, infertile village woman as she added,
It is about a girl called Lajjo who is uneducated and marries at a very early age. She thinks the sole purpose of her life is giving her husband a child. Later she finds out that she is infertile. It makes her feel upset and worthless. It is her (character’s) journey of self-discovery. I don’t think I have ever played the part of a woman who has such a beautiful balance. She thinks nothing of herself so she has nothing to lose and that brings the magic in her.She is so pure and honest.
The film is scheduled to be released on September 23.
