The journey of an influential actress from ‘Shanti’ to IPL
Today is the birthday of Mandira Bedi, yessss the bold woman, who attracted the attention of everyone with her glamorous as well as wholesome Indian look in the male ruled cricket world.
Mandira was born in a Punjabi speaking but Bombay based Bedi family on April 15, 1972. She has done her schooling from the Cathedral & John Connon High School. She started her career with Oglivy & Mather Advertising Agency and was soon offered a role on the small screen in Shanti. Shanti gave her recognition as an actress as it was the first ever daily soap on Indian Television.
After it, she also signed for ‘Kyun Ki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahoo Thi’. Her keen interest in cricket was seen in its best when she was given to host ‘Extra Innings’ by Sony Television. The attractive and sexy look of Mandira was one of the highlights of the show. The sarees draped by Mandira during the show which was uniquely designed cricket themed by Designer Satya Paul got many eyeballs of the audiences during the show.
Mandira got married to the Bollywood Film Director, Raj Kaushal on Valentine’s Day, 1999. Presently the couple live in Bandra with their five year old son.
The actress also acted in movie ‘Shaadi Ka Ladoo’, ‘Dus Kahaniyan’. In addition to its she was the anchor of Set Max’s World Cup Cricket 2007. Mandira also made presence in many TV shows including Deal Ya No Deal (2005 – 2006), Fame Gurukul (2005), Fear Factor India (2006), Jo Jeeta Wahi Super Star (2008), Funjabbi Chak De (2007-2008), Indian Idol Junior (2013), ’24’ (2013), Gangs of Hassepur (2014), I Can Do That (2015).
