Deepika Padukone’s action sequence in xXx: The Return of Xander Cage has got good reviews. She is overawed by the response. Deepika says,
It’s encouraging to see so much support and enthusiasm. A lot of hard work has gone into the making of the film. There was a lot of prep before I started shooting. I started my training in stunts and action with the action team and my physical trainer. I needed to be physically fit too for the kind of action I have done and today I am glad that the action has turned out so well. It’s been a tough journey, but it is a satisfying feeling. I look upon it as my job and something which I love doing. I have taken on more challenges than this. An actor should have the courage to take on even more challenging work. When you do a film, which is not a love story but an action drama and if people appreciate what you have done, you feel very happy and satisfied.
Unlike Priyanka Chopra, she did not use an American drawl. The reason being
I wanted to play an Indian girl in the movie… That’s one of the things that drew me to the part. My roots are Indian in xXx3 and there is no reason why I should speak with an American accent. But it also depends on the role that I do. You can’t generalise. The role required me to speak like an Indian girl which I did. Tomorrow, I may do a film which may require me to play an Indian-American, so there, an accent may be required. We did a lot of prepping on my character too after I landed on the sets. For weeks, I would sit with the director DJ Caruso and have discussions and dialogues on everything connected to my character — from what she wore, to the diction and little nuances in her persona.
