The first-weekend box office collection of Welcome to New York is a clear disaster. The Chakri Toleti’s debut Hindi movie failed to stand out in the box office collection. This multi-starer movie including Sonakshi Sinha, Diljit Dosanjh, Lara Dutta, Boman Irani and Karan Johar had the expectation to be the crowd puller on the weekend. But it failed miserable collecting only Rs 65 lakh on Friday. The movie is pitted against Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety where later established itself clear winner. And the film has shown not much improvement on Saturday Box Office collection grossing only 70 lakh rupees. The Sunday collection of Welcome to New York is only Rs 75 Lakh.
This typical masala Bollywood movie not only disappointed the audiences but also the critics. As per Shubhra Gupta, the film critic of The Indian Express, “You wish there was more savagery and skewering all round, but Welcome To New York turns out to be a limp, lame tribute to Bollywood. Why would I bother to see this in a film, when TV shows are full of it?”
Earlier trade analyst Girish Johar told to media; “The guest appearances from actors like Salman Khan, Sushant Singh Rajput and Rana Rana Daggubati have also been a major support for the film’s promotion. It could, therefore, have an opening of Rs 2.5 crore on Friday. But apart from that, everything lies on the film’s content. If it fares well with the audience, the collection even could go up to Rs 10 crore by the first weekend.”
