There is nothing pretentious and stereotype about this film based on Punjab! No Sarso Ke Khet, no Bhangra, No Kudiyan Te Munde! But a raw reality which will change the way you have ever thought about Punjab!
Udta Punjab gives you a sneak peak into the land of drug-lauded junkies! With a 70% of drug rate solely spreading through Punjabi veins, as the heavy voice in the starting of the trailer tells us, it will be in no time that the whole ground will turn into Mexico! Mexico? What?
MILNA HAI TOMMY SINGH SE?????
Shahid Kapoor’s Tommy Singh might be the best character he has played so far, thanks to all of those tattooed shoulders and fingers, distorted hairstyle, coke-snorting antics or hilariously barking out from the room swearing on top of his lungs when police comes to arrest him! A mixture of eccentricity with a tint of comedic timing is what might make him the star of the movie!
Vishal Bhardwaj really zoned him out too well!
Diljit Dosanjh is the apple of the eye, playing the role of Cop Sartaj Singh Dhillon, with the perfect accent! Obviously!!!! Being a magnificent Punjabi star, his Hindi debut with this movie is definitely gonna laud him with praises and acclaim. With Kareena Kapoor Khan, he will be seen wiping off this drug-menace as concerned adults. The bashing he gave to Tommy Singh was really relatable though! (Wink!)
Kareena’s role as Dr. Preet Sahani really convinced the maturity in her! The way she left her easy-going life and shifted to Punjab showed her sincerity towards helping the down-rated youth of Punjab! Although a little romantic moment with Sartaj Singh gave us a shot of eternal loving bliss!!!
The surprise package of the movie is our very own doll, Alia Bhatt, portraying the role of a Bihari Migrant Kumari Pinky. The height of professionalism and authenticity in such a small age is applauding and impressive! Her soiled skin, bruises, dirty clothes, a hockey stick with a typical Bhojpuri slang is what excites the audience to see more of her! Just like her free-spirited co-star Shahid, she is also seen swearing in the hour of need with full expressions and frustration! MAAL CHAHIE MAAL?
The trailer has allowed us to witness some of the hallucinatory visuals and hell-bent dialogues with a dawn of new Punjab. The movie is produced by Balaji Motion Pictures, in association with Phantom Pictures, and is directed by Abhishek Chaubey. It would be exciting to see all principal characters winding up in a damned-up story!
