Nil Battey Sannata is an utmost simple and heart-touching movie that utters the message to the society without creating much drama. The storyline of the film is emotional but intricately woven with humour. The story speaks the problem of that section of society where the dreams of the life get trapped under the numerous hitches.
Nil Battey Sannata is about the life of Chanda (Swara Bhaskar), who is a single mother and housemaid and takes all the pain to get her teenaged daughter Apeksha (Riya Shukla) educated. The poverty stricken Chanda has great future plans for her daughter by Apeksha, who is absolutely unambitious. Apu aka Apeksha is totally hopeless about her future, who thinks that in her life she can only become a maid as she has been born as a daughter of a household maid. The more, the optimistic Chanda tries to make Apeksha interested in her studies, the more she confronts with the fact that she is least interested in schoolwork. The greatest hurdle in the studies of Apu is Maths before which she becomes completely hopeless. Chanda herself is a school dropout and in this struggle to fulfil her dreams for Apu she takes help from the lady doctor (Ratna Pathak Shah) at whose house she works, along with school headmaster (Pankaj Tripathi). Ratna Pathak Shah, in the movie perpetually enlightens Chanda with her wise words. While suggesting a solution out of all the problems of Chanda, she asks her to take admission in the same school where her daughter studies. After mustering up the strength and putting the embarrassment aside, Chanda did the same but evidently a number of more hurdles come in the way. However, determined Chanda finds a way. And in this journey the bond between a mother and a daughter deepens and become stronger.
Swara Bhaskar’s superb acting which in due course is getting more refined with every movie. She wins the hearts of the audiences in the role of Chanda. You will pity her, develop sympathy for her and also you will be impressed by the indefatigable will for her dreams. Riya Shukla is brilliant in her performance as a stubborn teen. At some places in the movie you will feel like giving a good slap to her for the choppy replies she gives to her poor mother. It gives enough evidence about her good acting. Ratna Shah’s performance needs no acquaintance. She acts as a guardian angel to Chanda who with her support and wise words pushes a mother to her dreams. In the meantime she also entertains with her witty jokes and clever remarks. Pankaj Tripathi has done full justice with his superb acting to the character of a headmaster. He mocks his students in order to make the fear of the monstrous Maths away from the minds of the students.
